Steven Mahone arrested on rape charge

Mahone
FAYETTEVILLE — Steven Mahone, 41, of 1641 N. Oakland was arrested Friday in connection with rape and parole violation.

According to a report from the Fayetteville Police Department, a woman told police she was walking home when Mahone approached her and started talking to her like he knew her.

The woman said Mahone followed her into a convenience store, followed her out and she got into a car with Mahone and a friend because she felt intimidated and Mahone told her to, police said.

Police said the woman told them Mahone took her to his apartment where the rape took place. Mahone again raped the woman after she’d left in a grassy area near the apartment, according to a police report.

The woman escaped and went into a bar, with Mahone following, where an employee hid her until Mahone left, police said.

The woman told police she repeatedly told Mahone, “No,” throughout the night, but he did not stop. She told police she was afraid what else Mahone would do if she screamed or did not comply.

Mahone was being held Friday in the Washington County Detention Center with no bond set and a hearing scheduled for Monday.
